Bears Baseball captures 3rd in NJCAA DIII World Series

The Brookhaven Bears Baseball Team concluded an unprecedented postseason run by capturing 3rd in the NJCAA Division III World Series. The Bears won their first game in the World Series 10-9 over Rockingham (NC) on a walk off single in the bottom of the 9th. Brookhaven rallied from an 8-3 deficit in the 6th inning. The Bears next fell 7-0 to eventual National Champion Cumberland. In an elimination game, Brookhaven smashed 5 home runs to win 17-9 in 7 innings over the Community College of Rhode Island. The next day, the Bears hit two more home runs and defeated Century College (MN) 13-5 in 7 innings. In game 13 of the World Series, Brookhaven was eliminated 11-10 in the bottom of the 9th by Rowan Gloucester (NJ). Sergio Esqueda, Bryson Jolly, Chris McGinty, and Brett Wagner each received All-Tournament Team honors. The Bears won a school record 42 games during the 2019 campaign and finished a program best 3rd in the Nation.
